THE STANLEY & DOROTHY FRANK FAMILY FOUNDATION
A Legacy of Civic and Community Responsibility
In his biography, Frankly Speaking, Stanley Frank explains his vision for The Stanley & Dorothy Frank Family Foundation:
“We want to see our community and state benefit from the things we have been able to accomplish. We want to see people with the entrepreneurial spirit get assistance to do good works and to see our educational system get support. We can do that through the family foundation to ensure that our goals and our wishes continue to make lives better for more people. Our foundation fits those objectives.”
The Franks’ generosity began long before the establishment of the foundation. As long-time supporters of Guilford College, their contributions led to the establishment of the Dorothy and Stanley Frank Fellows program. This program offered scholarships to students interested in business and entrepreneurship. The Franks’ giving also led the school to name the Frank Family Science Center for them when opened in 2000.
In addition to Guilford College, Dorothy and Stanley gave to other educational institutions including UNCG and Wake Forest. Their support extended to local businesses, the Piedmont Triad Airport, Chamber of Commerce, and more during their lives.
Their ability to support the community came from hard work and a frugal lifestyle. Despite their success with Carolina By-Products, the Franks lived a simple yet meaningful life. “I learned from my mother the importance of pennies and the importance of producing work without needless spending,” Stanley was quoted. “Dorothy and I often talk about how we were able to do it. She reminds me that we’ve never felt the need to spend an excessive amount of money on ourselves.”
Oldest son, Bill Frank, served and supported the causes that were so dear to his parents until his passing in 2019. His brother, Barry, along with the rest of the board continue to honor the family’s legacy and the efforts of so many over the past 60+ years.
I was blessed to have Dorothy and Stanley Frank as my parents. They taught me how to live life appropriately and the importance of strong character and being kind and helpful to others. In addition, I was taught to have a good work ethic and the importance to giving back and supporting Greensboro and our Triad Community.
